Our Story

It started with an extra granola bar in NYC…

When my kids were very young, we used to take the train from Long Island into Manhattan every week over the summer to go to parks, museums, and out to lunch. I always brought a few granola bars with us in case the kids got hungry along the way. When we would end up back at Penn Station to go home, I would have leftover snacks and would give them to anyone who I knew was homeless and likely hungry.

Each trip into the city, I started bringing in more snacks specifically for people in need, and it eventually led to me making special bags full of whatever toiletries, drinks, snacks, gloves etc that I could find around my house (and my families houses!). From there, I reached out to my community and they responded by donating bags and bags full of items for my necessity bags.

And now here we are, 8 years later, and I have likely distributed over 3,000 necessity bags to people in NYC. I knew it was time to start One Love Outreach Mission so I can scale up this work and help more people as the need is so great now, more than ever. While it may seem like I am helping the people who receive the bags, it’s become clear to me the ways that they are, in fact, helping me.
